This year seemed very civilised and grown up after the explosions and human graffiti of last year.
There were loads of us this year – 18 in total with chaps from: Chalice, Icknield Way, Leicester, Man Friday, Mendip, Men of Wight, Oakworth, Packington, Stafford, Whitchurch, Yately and the hosts, Leeds. Although on the Sunday half the dancers changed kit.
The Friday night pub, The Railway, was very obliging, although nowhere near a railway. The landlord didn’t kick us out despite many of the customers leaving having had enough of our awful singing. The dancing however, was much better and some of it rated as bloody marvellous even if I do say so myself.
There was a bit of a Candid Camera/Beadle’s About/Jackass* moment (*delete according to your generation) as we walked single file, hand on the shoulder in front weaving in and out of the shoppers in the city centre. Some were amused, some were baffled and some pretended not to notice or care.
On the Sunday we were joined by Leeds and Briggate Morris at the Railway Inn. Once again the staff showed their cooperation by providing not one, but two lovely young ladies to dance round and smother with kisses.
This year was truly one of blood, sweat and beers. The blood was Ben’s as he fell over repeatedly having drunk an entire bottle of absinth. The tears were from Ali as he laughed uncontrollably at Ben’s drunken stupidity. And the beers were appreciated by all.
Well done Ali, a great weekend with fab food provided by the Fosters and Dr Love.
See you next year in Southampton before we cross the briny sea to the foreign lands of the Isle of Wight.
