Travels over the Sea

So we all had to back our passports this year as we journeyed to far distant lands, well the Isle of Wight is a similar shape to Australia! The bad behaviour stared early when our dancing on the ferry caused some old dears to fear the boat would sink. We found a nice pub on the Friday night, and engaged in some jovial banter with the locals who promptly invited us to a party the following night.

After a jolly bus tour and day of dance, including "interesting" stories from Ben Higgs which weren't, Simon pulling a big bird (literally - see the photos) and a visit to a pub which is an unofficial melodeon museum that has at our estimate half a million quid's worth of boxes sitting on the oak beams, things really went a bit surreal.

Off we went to the party we were invited to the previous night only to find the house in darkness and a frosty reception from the chap's missus telling us in no uncertain terms the party was off as matey boy was ill. Undeterred we danced in the Co-op next door to the confusion of the staff and customers alike.

Soon we were bored of that and tried to find another random party to crash. Which somehow we managed to do quite successfully. I'm not sure what the hosts thought of twenty Morris men gate crashing their party but they probably weren't too impressed especially when we broke their chandelier by dancing Upton stick dance in their living room. Taking this as our cue to leave we stumbled upon a group of local chavs. Simon headed an impressive slagging match and dance off before a rumour was spread that the police had been called and so we scarpered. Wandering around we found a nice local pub that welcomed a spot of music and singing where we could while away the rest of the evening.

Sunday was spent dancing on the seafront with the Men of Wight, The Wight Belles and the Oyster Girls.

In all a very successful weekend. There were chaps from Men of Wight, Leicester, Packington, Whitchurch, Mendip, Ebor, Romford, Great Yorkshire Morris, Leeds, Yately, Icknield Way and a random combination from someone who couldn't make up their mind.

We look forward to seeing you all in York next year. The date has now been set for October 12th - 14th 2007.
